Poetry Workshop (Daytime)

Instructor: Roselyn Elliott
Cost: $135 Members | $150 Non-Members
6 Mondays, June 11-July 16, 2012 | 1:00-3:30pm

Combining poetic elements to take our poems past the edge of personal experience into universal themes with which readers can connect will be the focus of this class. We will write in class, and discuss poems which succeed at this through use of image, metaphor, voice, the musical line and repetition. Students will submit poems for critique as they work to free their imagination and empower their poems. Suggested text: The Poet’s Companion, A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry, by Kim Addonizio and Dorianne Laux, available at WriterHouse.

Roselyn Elliott is the author of three poetry chapbooks, including Animals Usher Us to Grace (Finishing Line Press 2011). Her essays and poems are published in numerous literary magazines. She has taught writing at VCU, The Visual Arts Center of Richmond, and Piedmont Virginia Community College.
