Write a micro-memoir under 1000 words—the nonfiction equivalent of flash fiction—which might hold the seed of a full-length work. There will be in-class readings and exercises that address pertinent craft issues, and we will explore the essential elements of memoir writing, such as sensory imagery, metaphoric language, distinctive voice, dramatic arc, and focused theme.
You do not need to have completed a piece in order to benefit from this seminar, nor will we expect you to have completed a piece during the seminar. You will emerge with the tools and knowledge to write your own micro-memoir.
Instructor: Don Fry
Cost: $10 Members Only
Thursday, June 6 or Monday, June 10, 2013 | 7:00-8:00pm
Have an intense session with writing coach Don Fry. We will explore your writing process to help solve what you regard as your biggest problem. Don does not work with text; writers' problems occur not in the text but in the process that produced that text. The format is three writers and the coach. Each participant gets 20 minutes, with the other two listening. Don donates his time for these sessions. One recent participant wrote this about the experience:
"I'm not exaggerating: my 1-on-3 session with Don Fry was the single most impressive hour I've ever spent in an educational setting. It's remarkable how much he can accomplish with 20 minutes per person.

Saturday, March 16, 2013 | 9:00am-1:00pm
This seminar, co-led by author Jay Kauffmann and clinical psychologist Russell Grieger, will look at the art of writing through the lens of psychology, with the understanding that all good writing starts at the core of artistic identity. For poets, fiction and nonfiction writers alike, this course will consider the path to finding your own authentic voice and uncovering emotional truth in your work. We will look at writer's block and the anxieties of creation and propose means to unlock the creative self and promote artistic daring. There will be in-class exercises and readings.
WriterHouse is teaming up with Light House Studio to present a screenwriting workshop for teens, three Saturdays, March 9, 16 & 23, 1:30-3:30pm.
Tuition: $75 (some scholarships available for students who cannot afford the fee. Contact WriterHouse or Light House Studio.)
Registration information on the Light House Website.
