Seminar: The Art of Third Person
Instructor: Samar Fitzgerald
Cost: $55 Members | $60 Non-Members
Saturday, October 16th | 9:00am-1:00pm
Ever feel indecisive about what point of view is best for the story
you want to tell? This seminar will explore the artistic advantages of
third person storytelling. We’ll break down the mechanics of the third
person point of view, question established myths about the third
person, and take a close look at famous examples of third-person
narratives. We’ll also use short writing prompts to become more
comfortable with the point of view.
Samar Fitzgerald’s fiction is forthcoming or has appeared in
StoryQuarterly, The Southern Review, and Avery: An Anthology of New
Fiction. She has an MFA from the University of Wisconsin, where she
received the Friends of Creative Writing Award and the August Derleth
Prize. She lives in Staunton, VA and is at work on a collection of
short stories.
