Extend your range and hone your sense of "poetry that breathes," in Emily Dickinson's words. We'll focus on poems that arise within us spontaneously as well as those wrenched from the void by challenging exercises. We'll read contemporary poems and discuss the elements of poetry: image, metaphor, sound, and line. Text, available at WriterHouse: Ordinary Genius: A Guide for the Poet Within, by Kim Addonizio.
Sharon Leiter is the author of three poetry books, The Lady and the Bailiff of Time, The Dream of Leaving, and The Night Heart Knows Every Word. Her poetry has appeared in The Georgia Review, The Virginia Quarterly, and elsewhere. She is co-poetry editor of Streetlight Magazine.
