Here's a line-up of WriterHouse members, instructors, and authors who have been hosted at WriterHouse participating in panels or readings as part of the 2012 Virginia Festival of the Book, March 21-25, 2012. Please go and support their programs!
Members:
- Leone Ciporin is moderating the Crime Wave panel, "High Body Count" on Saturday, 2 PM.
- Kathy Erskinewill participate in five separate events:
- She will spend the day with CHS students talking about writing on Wednesday, 9 AM. Open only to the CHS community.
- She is on the panel "Coming of Age with Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima" on Wednesday, 6 PM.
- She shares her writing secrets with Peabody 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on Thursday, 8:45 AM. Open only to the Peabody School community.
- She chats with 5th grade students about Mockingbird and her newest book The Absolute Value of Mike on Friday, 8:30 AM. Open only to the Baker-Butler school community.
- And finally an exhausted Kathryn discusses writing with Village School 7th and 8th graders from the evolution of ideas through publication on Friday,1:45 PM
- Cliff Garstang is moderating the Fiction panel, "Reconstructions" on Friday, 6 PM.
- Susan Gilmore and Elizabeth McCullough are on the Readers and Social Media panel "New Ways to Communicate" panel on Friday, 2 PM. Rachel Unkefer will be the moderator at this same event which is sponsored by WriterHouse (at the central branch of the library-JMRL).
- Sarah Honenberger chats with CHS students about Catcher in the Rye and her novel Catcher, Caught on Wednesday, 9 and 11 AM.
- Kristen-Paige Madonia is on the panel "Coming of Age with Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima" on Wednesday, 6:00 PM
- Caroline Preston is on the Fiction panel "Harbach, Henderson, Preston--Highly Recommended!" on Thursday, 8 PM. The following day, Friday, 10:40 AM, she discusses her book The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt with Tandem students in a session titled Translating Ephemera into a Novel. Open only to the Tandem School community.
- Deborah Prum will participate in three events:
- She is on the The Art of the Essay panel "Robin Traywick Williams, Deborah Prum, and Faith Andrews Bedford" on Wednesday, 2 PM.
- She is also on the Fiction panel "Finding Your Way" on Thursday, 12 PM.
- Finally, Deborah is on the Dancing With the Manuscripts 2012 panel "How to Hook an Editor on the First Page" on Saturday, 2 PM.
- Mariflo Stephens is on the Fiction panel "Behind Closed Doors" on Wednesday, 2 PM.
- Deepak Singh is on the Memoirs Panel "Cultural Leaps" on Friday, 2 PM.
- Rachel Unkefer is moderating the fiction panels "Life Isn't Always What it Seems" Saturday noon at New Dominion and "Retelling the Tales" at 4PM at the main library (sponsored by WriterHouse).

- Emma Rathbone will participate in The Big Read session "Coming of Age with Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima" on Wednesday, 6 PM.
- Meredith Cole is moderating the Fiction panel " Conspiracies and Obsessions" on Thursday, 4 PM. She is also the moderator for the Crime Wave panel "Thrilling Me Softly" on Saturday, March 24, 2 PM.
- Charles Shields , author of Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee and a new biography And So It Goes: Kurt Vonnegut: A Life, will participate in 3 festival events on Friday, March 23:
- At 9:30 AM, he discusses Vonnegut's life with MHS students in a session appropriatlely titled "And So It Goes". Open only to the Monticello High School community.
- Then at 1 PM discusses writing about iconic literary figures with Western Albemarle High School students Open only to the WAHS school community.
- Finally at 4 PM, he is on the Literary Icons--Their Lives, Their Works panel "Vonnegut, Tolstoy, and E.B. White."
- Jay Varner is on the The Big Read panel "Coming of Age with Rudolfo Anaya's Bless Me, Ultima" on Wednesday, 6 PM.
- Bella Stander is moderating two panels: "Making the Breakout Book" Saturday noon at the Omni (co-sponsored by WriterHouse), and "Young Adult Fiction: Heroes, Demons & Bad Roommates" Saturday 2PM at Village School.
Authors Who Have Appeared at WriterHouse or Who Are Coming:
- Tayari Jones, author of Silver Sparrow, is on the Fiction panel "Family Riddles, Secrets, and Stardom" on Friday, 2:PM.
- Danielle Evans,author of Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self, explores the strengths and flaws of young women of color in modern day America in this debut short story collection as part of the African American Authors Book Club session on Friday, 12 PM.
- Eleanor Henderson, author of Ten Thousand Saints, participates in 3 sessions:
- She is on the Fiction panel "Harbach, Henderson, Preston--Highly Recommended!" on Thursday, 8 PM.
- She will read from her debut work in the UVA MFA Alumni Reading on Friday, 12 PM.
- Eleanor discusses writing with Renaissance School students on Friday, 2:30PM. Open only to the Renaissance School community.
- Leona Wisoker, author of Guardians of the Desert, is on the Science Fiction and Fantasy panel, Friday, 6 PM.
- Alma Katsu, author of The Taker, is on the Fiction panel "Conspiracies and Obsessions" on Thursday, 4 PM.
- Fran Cannon Slayton, author of When the Whistle Blows, is on the Dancing With the Manuscripts 2012 panel "How to Hook an Editor on the First Page" on Saturday, 2 PM.
- Jonathan Coleman, co-author of West By West: My Charmed, Tormented Life and other books, introduces Jerry West and joins him for a booksigning following "Leadership Breakfast: Jerry West" on Wednesday, 7:30 AM.
