Invisible Fence

Well, back on April 1, I said if anyone finishes the Frenzy and wants to have a reading of the play with real, live, living actors… I would do it.

Not surprising to me, Tom Clay who many of you know, reached 101 by the end of April with a staged play called: INVISIBLE FENCE.

So we are having a reading and would love your attendance, indulgences, your ears, your insights and your pure feedback.

  • Live Arts, 4th Floor, Green Room

  • Monday, June 25th

  • 7pm

Reading, talkback, feedback, drinks and snacks of course.

Looking forward to it.

Well, it is one day from the last day and I hope this day (which is lovely in Cville) finds you lovely in Cville.

Reminder: Write-in Slash Wrap Party

  • April 30th
  • Writer House
  • 7 PM
  • Write, Free Pizza, Wine, Snacks, Beer
  • Everyone is invited (no matter page count) please come and share your experience… or just have a beer.

I have 10 pages to go, and 33 hours to get em done.  I think I’ll be fine.   Well, I know I’ll be fine, I just hope I reach 100 pages.

And, I hope to see you all tomorrow night.

Middle April March On

Middle-Earth-MapWow, so this is the middle.  Feels like the middle.  My page count should be 50… but it’s not.  My page count is 44 and that is only after a break neck 10 pager last night and this morning.

Maybe you are at 70; maybe you are at 7.   Whatever.  We got it.  We still have 15 days (I’m, of course, counting today)

Do you need a little boost?  Want to know how do you get a little writer blast?

Well, one thing I know works — and I’ve seen it work over and over again — is to come to a write ins.  First, it’s hard not to get about 5 pages written — trust me it happens all the time — in about 2 hours or less.  Second, you get to do it with a bunch of others doing the same thing, making good progress, together.  And finally, you get to share, shout, talk, listen, blab, encourage and get encouragement all while having a fun time.

Need a secret?  Share it.

See you tomorrow at the writer house.

Sandra says we’re all in this together

script frenzy nationalHello Script Frenzy Writer!

My jackrabbit start to the Frenzy was short-lived. It’s Friday, and I’m still on page six. Oops! I should have taken a leaf out of the Tortoise’s book and not the Hare’s.

In order to write 100 pages by April 30, we need to write 3.33 pages per day. This means I’m behind on my page-count goal by 20.64 pages. Under normal circumstances I’d be in a panic about falling so far behind. But, I’m not worried because it’s Friday and I have the first weekend of the month ahead of me.

To be on track by Sunday night, we should be at page 27. What do you say we set our sights on surpassing that page-count goal?

This is totally doable! Even if you haven’t typed a single word. I’m positive you can do it! Are you with me?

Here are some tips to help get you there:

Grease your creative wheels: If you’re feeling stuck, read one of our super helpful cameos written by industry experts to rev up your writing performance.

Clear your schedule. Tell your family and friends that you’re busy working on your script this weekend. Take it one step further and share your goal with them. Tweet and post your goal as your Facebook status. When your friends and family ask on Monday if you reached your goal, you’ll proudly say, “Yes!” You won’t want to say that you didn’t make it, right?

Join your home region. This will help you locate write-ins in your area, so you don’t have to bang on your keyboard alone. Script Frenzy Municipal Liaisons are peppered around the world, and they organize and plan all of your local events.

Page-count rewards: Don’t you just love goodies? Every time you write a page, reward yourself to a favorite treat. When you reach page 20, take a trip to your favorite coffee house and indulge in a baked good or two. At the end of page 27, watch a movie—or sleep! You’ve earned it.

Writing Sprints: Drop in on the Reaching 100 Pages forum for tips on how to trick yourself into writing your pages. Running out of ideas? Skim the new Adoption Society forum and find an abandoned plot, a character, or even a catchphrase to spice things up. Hop on Twitter and use #scriptfrenzy to meet fellow Frenziers and participate in writing sprints throughout the weekend.

Get back on track this weekend, and emerge triumphant by catching up to or maybe even surpassing page 27. Remember, we’re in this together, so let’s get started!

Kick That Thing Off

Writer House Charlottesville Banner on Brick WallWell, we had a good turn out at our Kick-Off at the Writer House yesterday.  Many people jumping in without prior experience.  Boy, that’s an inspiration.  Keep it up.

We had some sessions on the basic questions of playwrights and play writing and and screenplays and scriptwriting and then, well, we wrote.

In what is like a NaNoWriMo word war; we did a Script Sprint.  And it is always delightful to me, just how much can be written in 10 minutes when the only rule (self imposed) is that I just don’t stop; and when I get to a point where I think I should stop, I keep going.

Pause.  Pause.  Pause.

Oh, yeah, live keeps going.

Rock on; Write on.
